Finding a parent support group

Parents are very often overwhelmed by their child’s ASD diagnosis. They may feel frustrated or helpless, stuck in a world that revolves solely around autism. Families with a child who has a disability have special concerns and often need a great deal of information: including school services, therapy, local policies, funding sources, transportation, medical facilities, etc.

Most parents find it extremely useful to join a support group of other families who are sharing similar experiences. Emotional support is a critical piece of your ability to care for your child as well as his or her siblings, not to mention yourself. Additionally, the group can work as a team to support each other and address common concerns.

You are your child’s best advocate to getting the help they need, but you need to take care of yourself as well.
